Johnson’s Baby Bedtime

Nuffnang Featured Advertiser for the Month of July

Johnson’s Baby Bedtime unraveled the wonders that make bedtime more special at the Johnson’s Baby Bedtime Discoveries.

Our mommies were welcomed to this world of wisdom by two women who truly know what it’s like being a mom:

Ms. Christine Bersola-Babao – A prominent TV personality and devoted mom to four-year old Antonia, and five-month old Antonio.

Ms. Caren Bayhon-Yrastorza – Former news anchor, host, and TV commercial talent, and now full-time mom to four-year old Sam.

Christine and Caren, together with Johnson’s Baby, a trusted partner of generations of moms, led the Discoveries to help moms through the journey to better sleep.

For over 100 years, Johnson’s Baby has walked with millions of moms through their own journeys and intends to continue doing this for every new mom.

Johnson’s Baby also recognizes that Filipino moms today are proactive and diligent in learning more about how to care for their baby best that they not only go to their doctors, they also surf on the internet and occult fellow moms as well.

That is why Johnson’s Baby is reaching out to mom bloggers, and other top bloggers that Filipino moms listen to and follow. They know that together, they can share these wonderful Bedtime Discoveries with many Filipino moms out there and help bring ease and peaceful slumber to both mom and baby. This is their advocacy: Making every sleep-filled night bridge baby to faster growth. Because faster growth occurs when babies get better sleep.

Join Johnson’s Baby Bedtime as they gather all Bedtime Believers on July 10, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon at Aquaknox Restaurant & Lounge, 800 Arnaiz Avenue corner Amorsolo St., San Lorenzo Village, Makati City.

Special Blogger Awards, entertainment, food, prizes, fun, and the company of fellow bloggers await you!

The Science of Sleep

Through Dr. Luis Rivera, Vice President of the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine, and midwives from the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines, attendees during the launch were privileged to have learned more about the science of sleep.

Why Sleep is important

  • Sleep is important and affects baby’s development (immune system, learning and memory, metabolism, and release of growth hormones)
  • Baby grows faster during sleep. Her body releases three times more growth hormones

What Good Sleep is

  • On average, babies under 3 months sleep approximately sixteen hours a day: about two hours at a time in the day, and four to six hours at night.
  • Move through the sleep cycle about five times a night: drowsiness down through light sleep and dream sleep into deep sleep. Then come back up again through dream sleep and light sleep to the surface before going down again.
    • Dream sleep is also known as rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep: Baby’s eyes dart back and forth under her eyelids, the rest of her body is still except for occasional twitches, and her breathing is irregular
    • Light sleep: Baby breathes deeply and regularly, sometimes with a big sigh. She will lie very still, but may occasionally make little sucking movements with her mouth or “startle”. These sudden jerks of the whole body are known as hypnagogic startles and are perfectly normal.

How to Give Baby Better Sleep

  • A routine in general helps babies learn through conditioning
  • Establish a bedtime routine:
    • STEP 1: WARM BATH OR PUNAS
    • STEP 2: SOOTHING MASSAGE
    • STEP 3: QUIET TIME (Story or Lullaby)
